52.5% workflow lift, 12.8% employee comfort gain, 78% of teams needed a mobile app. See how UPS rebuilt logistics:

  • Buyer signal. Global cargo teams needed one interface that matched how they actually work, so the transportation management system architecture treats role-based visibility as the primary design problem.
  • Design scope. A transportation management system application pairing 2D cargo management, multi-role access, and smart notifications inside one enterprise transportation management UX.
  • Category fit. A real digital transformation of transport and logistics management, delivering the transportation management system dashboard the industry has been waiting for.

About the project

Airfreight Delivery UPS is well-known around the globe for its impressive global net logistics. The time passes by, so the platform should too.

Global cargo operations run on software that most people never see. The dashboards that route packages across continents, coordinate flight schedules against ground delivery windows, and give operations managers a real-time picture of what's moving where. UPS had built a genuinely powerful system inside that world, but the interface had aged past the point where the people using it every day could get their work done efficiently. The rebuild started from that specific gap.

The design work spanned a full airfreight tracking UI refresh across desktop, tablet, and mobile, giving operations managers, airfreight coordinators, and backend staff each a purpose-built view of the workflows they actually own. A cargo management dashboard redesign brought 2D cargo visualization directly into the primary interface, replacing the multi-app juggling exercise that had been eating into daily productivity. Multi-role access controls now surface the specific tools each user needs without exposing the ones they don't, respecting both the operational reality and the security requirements enterprise logistics platforms have to meet.

Multi-role logistics app decisions ran on evidence rather than assumption. 215 employees across pilot, coordination, and administration roles participated in structured interviews and surveys, giving the team the specific behavioral data needed to design against how UPS teams actually work rather than how enterprise software vendors assume they should work. That evidence base is why the rebuild landed at outcomes the previous version couldn't reach.

Underneath the interface, Lufga typography carries dense logistics data at reading distance without visual fatigue. Black and white foundations reinforce clarity across information-dense screens, while red marks alerts that require immediate attention and green signals ready-state confirmation. That specific color logic prevents mistakes when operations teams are processing high-volume information under time pressure, which is the operational reality the design has to serve every single day rather than only during smooth conditions.

The Result section documents the direction paying off, with a 52.5% workflow performance lift confirming the redesign hit the specific quality bar UPS teams needed the platform to reach.

Aftermath

Scope of work

  • We had a big scope of work from UPS TMS Platform - SaaS project. It was a quite a normal assignment with a few diffs: redraw the interface, reconstructing the interface, employee examine.

The UPS project came with a clear ask - redesign the outdated logistics dashboard interface. We worked on updating the full UX/UI structure, redrawing screens, and streamlining key interaction flows. The scope also included internal employee testing and adjustment based on feedback.

Project Timeline

  • This is our project timeline for this project. It was a little complicated, so it took time to polish it up to The Finals. This UPS TMS Platform - SaaS example took us through a 6-week sprint with milestone reviews. Due to data density and layered access levels, we needed to iterate multiple flows.

Design Process

  • Describing the process can prove our experience and the nice feeling of time. We followed a structured UX process from audit to wireframes, then prototyping and delivery. In the UPS TMS Platform - SaaS ui / ux workflow, we prioritized dashboard clarity and user conversion paths. Frequent user validation helped us improve the layout logic across all views.

Users Interviews

Employee & Company Examine

  • We interviewed operations managers, airfreight coordinators, and backend staff. The goal was to assess platform usability, tool relevance, and conversion friction in existing flows. This gave us the right focus for both UI improvement and backend communication.

    Design Code

    Design Language

    • We completely redesigned the look of UPS's design code to make it feel incredibly powerful and new. We chose Lufga, a clear and easy-to-read font, perfect for digital dashboards. For the main colors, we used black and white to ensure everything was clear and easy to see. Red was used for important alerts, and green showed when things were ready to go. This simple color system helped prevent mistakes when people were dealing with lots of information quickly, especially during busy times.
