About the project

Cargo is a plane load management system that helps airlines optimize their cargo-loading operations. It provides a visual interface for loading cargo onto planes, taking into account weight, dimensions, and safety restrictions.

Airline cargo operations sit at a specific mathematical challenge that most software fails to solve well. Every flight carries a maximum weight limit, a defined cargo hold geometry, and a safety envelope that dictates where specific weight classes and fragility ratings can be positioned. Manual loading planning depends on individual expertise and manual calculations, which produces two consistent problems: cargo space gets underutilized, and edge cases occasionally violate safety constraints. Cargo was designed to close both gaps by treating load optimization as the interface's primary computational job, not a spreadsheet exercise that runs alongside the actual work.

The design work spanned the full Cargo platform, from the dashboard where operations managers plan flights through the loading interface where ground crews execute against those plans into the route optimization views that connect cargo decisions to fuel efficiency outcomes. Every screen answered a specific question. Can the operations team see current hold capacity, plan the optimal parcel distribution, and validate safety constraints, all inside a single interface that respects the pace of airline ground operations. That principle earns the case its place in the air cargo management conversation, because most competing platforms treat load planning as a spreadsheet migration rather than a genuine visual optimization problem.

Cargo management and logistics logic runs on a specific interaction model. Size-based compartmentalization organizes parcels into cargo hold sections that prevent damage to fragile items while maximizing space utilization. Weight distribution calculations happen automatically as loaders assign parcels to sections. Route optimization considers fuel efficiency and delivery timelines to suggest cost-effective flight paths. That combination separates working cargo load optimization software from the fragmented tool stacks most airlines still use for load planning.

Underneath the interface, the visual system carries the specific discipline aviation software requires. Clean typography holds up under time pressure.     • The logo for the Cargo LMS project represents a plane silhouette, reflecting the core domain of the platform. This symbol communicates the product’s function in a direct and recognizable way. We used flat design principles for clarity across different screen sizes.

    Defining typeface & palette

    • We chose the Urbanist font for its readability and modern structure. Its clean look supports user navigation and aligns with aviation-related digital systems. The font reflects our goal of creating a functional, conversion-driven interface for Cargo LMS ux / ui.

      Bright colors were selected to improve visibility across dashboards, especially under different lighting conditions. They help guide attention to alerts, tracking indicators, and live data inputs. This foundation ensures an interface that is both functional and visually approachable without overloading cognitive effort.

    • By prioritizing user needs and creating a user-friendly experience, we contributed to a Cargo Load Management System. We defined key functionality, designed a responsive UI, and integrated user flows for web and mobile.

      The scope also included dashboard optimization, weight allocation visualizations, and performance tracking tools. Analytics and conversion goals were addressed by simplifying decision-making for cargo managers.

      Research

      Research phase

      • During the research phase, we reviewed shipment flows, cargo types, and parcel weights. This helped us find common patterns in air freight operations. We were able to identify the most frequent destinations and the typical characteristics of parcels.         These insights guided our design choices for filters, layouts, and optimization logic in the Cargo LMS interface.

        • 38,5% of parcels

          going to USA. This concentration highlighted the need to optimize routing and tracking features for North American destinations.
