GeoTab Insurance – SaaS Dashboard & UX UI Design
Delayed fleet crash reconstruction causes $2M annual losses.
Owner & Head of Operations
About the project
Geotab turns fragmented vehicle telemetry into a single accident reconstruction system built for commercial insurers. Claims teams get a live read on collision risk, so decisions that once waited on paperwork happen on the spot instead.
Before a screen was drawn, the team ran a full ux audit of the existing claims workflow and mapped exactly where accident data stalled between fleets and adjusters. Every surface built afterward, from the collision dashboard to the field inspection tool, was measured against one standard: does it get an adjuster to a decision faster.

Strategy phase
Reading a Crowded Field
We mapped Geotab against Trimble, Zurich, Netradyne, Samsara, Motive and several other fleet platforms across two axes: fragmented legacy tools versus unified AI control, and raw data versus insight that drives action. The open space sat in a $35B segment already courting predictive insurers, and that became the target position.
The build itself ran through a six stage framework, from defining business goals through a strategy roadmap, data analysis, prototyping and a final scalable design system. Brand positioning and product structure developed together instead of in separate tracks.

Insights from the Field
Where Claims Data Breaks Down
Before touching a screen we gathered structured ux research from adjusters and fleet operators handling real collision claims. The pattern held across interviews: the information existed somewhere, but nobody could reach it fast enough to act on it.
Key highlights from the interview
66.4% - Data Delays
Of commercial insurance claims are overpaid because accident details arrive too late.
82.8% - Blind Payouts
The percentage of claims where the insurance company overpays due to a lack of accurate data on the collision.
91.8% - AI Automation
Of the insurance market critically needs AI automation to reduce financial losses.

Mobile app
Field Reviews Without a Laptop
Adjusters and inspectors work from parking lots and impound yards, not desks. The mobile build carries the same collision intelligence as the desktop dashboard into an interface sized for one handed use in the field.
Four cards distill a full claim file into the handful of facts an inspector needs on site.
Key Features
Smart AI Insight Card
Focused incident overviews reduce cognitive friction, enabling immediate risk evaluation.
Advanced Visual Data Graph
Translating dense operational data into interactive visual models drives decisions.
Visual Crash Severity Card
The highlighted reconstruction card reduces cognitive load by providing instant clarity about the event.
Interactive 3D Crash Model
Pairing interactive 3D reconstructions with intuitive controls enables mobile forensic analysis.

Typography
Type Built for Quick Scans
Helvetica carries the interface across 52 styles spanning Light, Regular and Medium weights. Its even geometry holds up under dense collision tables and stays legible when an adjuster is scanning a report in seconds, not minutes. Optimized text styles across the system lifted scanning speed on complex insurance reports by 56%, proof that a disciplined type scale pays for itself in review time.

Colors
A Palette Built for Alerts
The system runs on four colors, each with a defined job. Near black #141414 and white #FEFEFE carry long monitoring sessions without strain, #E3E3E3 holds secondary structure, and one vibrant blue, #032FD9, marks the brand and flags what needs attention now.
Accent moments built from that blue helped insurance teams spot critical data changes 52% faster, turning color into a functional signal rather than decoration.

Problem & Solution
Replacing Guesswork With Timeline Data
Three friction points shaped the rebuild: analysts reading incident logs by hand, damage assessments built on guesswork, and risk models built on averages that buried the worst cases.
Solutions
Dynamic Visual Insight System
Predictive markers sit directly on the risk timeline, cutting analysis time from nearly two minutes to 22 seconds, a drop of 81%.
Dynamic 3D Reconstruction Card
Dmitry K., UX Architect, pushed for instant 3D rebuilds after surveys showed manual review ate hours. Processing time fell from 12.5 hours to 4.5, a cut of 64%.
Automated AI Analysis Graph
Our CX Designer noted that manual assessments hid real risk. Automated modeling lifted prediction precision from 41% to 93%.

Dashboard
One Screen for Every Claim
The Collision Risk view puts a single score, 48.2% for one operator's fleet, beside a scatter of every recent incident ranked from low to extreme. An adjuster opens any point to see the vehicle, the event type and a direct link to the full reconstruction.
Selecting a case opens a dedicated Collision Reconstruction panel: point of impact percentage, an exploded 3D vehicle model, driver and VIN detail, and an export to PDF for the claims file. That information architecture ux keeps dense collision data inside one continuous flow instead of scattered exports and email threads.
Website Overview
Leads Before Features
The homepage opens on Transform your data into business clarity, backed by a direct Book a demo call to action, then walks visitors through fleet analytics, collision reconstruction and safety scoring before asking for anything. Trust markers, partner counts, a 4.9 average rating and uptime figures, sit near the bottom to close the case.
That structure alone generated 44% more leads than the previous site, turning a static brochure page into an active pipeline for the sales team.

Logo Design
A Mark Built to Scale Down
Geotab's identity centers on a single geometric chevron, a folded arrow shape that reads clearly whether it is stitched onto a cap or shrunk to a 25px app icon. The form stayed legible at every size tested, from full lockups down to the smallest touch target on a home screen.
That same mark anchors the brand on the competitive map, standing apart from the heavier, more literal logos common across fleet software.
Branding
An Identity That Travels
The chevron mark and vibrant blue move beyond the dashboard onto a sweatshirt, a cap and a business card, each carrying the San Jose headquarters address and a direct contact email. The goal was a brand an adjuster or a driver could recognize on a jacket the same way they recognize it inside the app. Physical touchpoints matter for a product built on trust. A claims team leans on data more readily from a brand it has seen consistently, on a laptop, a phone and now a hat.

Achieved Results
Measurable Impact in Claims Review
Restructuring the workflow around live collision data turned a slow, paper heavy process into a fast, defensible one. Since launch the platform has added 8,000 plus active users and grown market cap by 48.4%, with revenue climbing $2.8M in that stretch, proof that disciplined digital transformation pays back in numbers insurers actually track.
Key Outcomes
+500% Faster Crash Reviews
Achieved by making the reconstruction interface radically simpler to read.
+56% Drop in Operational Costs
Thanks to smart, automated visual analytics replacing manual review.
The updated dashboard completely erased our $2M annual loss.

Next Step Strategy
Scaling Past One Market
With the dashboard, mobile app and landing page shipped, the next phase scopes localization so Geotab can operate inside international claims standards. That work treats digital transformation services as an ongoing practice rather than a single build, layering language and regional compliance onto a foundation that already works.
With our system now streamlined, we can expand worldwide easily.
