EHR Healthcare Case Study
What is EHR?
The healthcare industry is constantly evolving, and technology plays a vital role in these changes. One area that has seen significant changes is electronic health records (EHR) systems
Industry

(01) Project
We were hired by a company, which has been working on innovations in the Health Care sector for several years in collaboration with doctors and specialists from the Health Care sector. HCS received a grant to research one hypothesis.
(02) Task
HCS challenged the Rondesignlab with a very ambitious goal to transform a lot of different data about the patient’s health into an accessible visualized view.
We should create a visualization of an EHR system that will enable the doctor to quickly explore the patient’s history, especially in urgent cases and for patients with a wide medical history.
(03) Problems
As usual, any project starts with the discovery stage. The discovery allows our team to get acquainted in detail with this project, and to look at it from a different angle.
With each visit of a patient, there are many records with absolutely different information entered into the system. In the case of hospitalization, the number of informational items can grow up to 50 units. In such a flow of information, it isn’t easy to reconstruct the chronology of events and identify events that could affect health.
The information in the programs has a complicated structure, so doctors should take a long time to analyze. There is no way to get a quick summary in this system to understand what to concentrate on.
(04) Timeline of patient’s documents
The initial timeline problem arose due to the information being presented in a hard-to-read form, hindering clear comprehension.
Furthermore, there was a significant difficulty in accurately reconstructing the chronology of events, adding to the complexity of the situation.
(05) Solution
The main idea was that, in the interface, there would be a tool to view the history of patient visits, recent analyzes, and visits to the emergency.
Also, the detailed view with filters by the hour, day, month, and year, depending on the doctor’s needs, will be available.
(06) Creating a new assignment
One significant issue faced was the difficulty in obtaining a holistic view of the patient’s health.
This obstacle made it arduous to grasp the complete picture of the patient’s well-being, hindering effective decision-making.
(07) Solution
A pivotal solution enables doctors to delve into a patient timeline, enabling them to gain profound insights into the patient’s illness. By accessing this timeline, doctors can conveniently review the complete history of visits, hospitalizations, procedures, lab tests, and scans, all in one place.
(08) Doctors meeting room
A big problem in EHR platforms is the lack of effective communication between doctors when they need to collaborate on diagnosing and providing immediate medical assistance, impeding the vital exchange of information for accurate and timely interventions.
(09) Solution
Our solution was to create the online meeting room, as part of telemedicine, which helps doctors to discuss tests, images and diagnoses of a patient, with the ability to create notes on treatment and appointments for re-tests on their device.
(10) Adding a new chief complaint
Another significant problem was the difficulty in obtaining a comprehensive overview of the patient’s health.
The existing limitations make it challenging to gather a holistic view of the patient’s well-being, hindering the ability to make informed decisions and provide appropriate medical interventions.
(11) Solution
As part of the solution, doctors have the ability to create a new chief complaint.
Additionally, doctors can schedule necessary examinations and further enhance the patient’s medical record by adding a description of the visit and leaving comments on each diagnosis.
(12) Patient visit documentation
Doctors highlighted a significant challenge regarding the complicated structure of the EHR system. They found it easier to resort to printing multiple documents and working with physical copies rather than navigating the complexities of the digital system.
(13) Solution
The solution was to show an open doctor visit document with attached documents, appointments, comments of the doctor who examined the patient, and the diagnosis in one place so that the doctor could easily understand and interact with them.
(14) Branding
Branding establishes a complete association with Med+. Our goal was to create the design that reflects the latest trends. By leveraging stylish design trends, we thoughtfully curated a color palette and typography that epitomize a modern.
(15) Solution
Branding plays a crucial role in the success and adoption of Electronic Health Record platforms.
Effective branding creates a strong identity for the platform, communicates its value proposition, and builds trust among users.
Team
As a component of this project, we utilized a design sprint devised by our team, which assembled a group of designers, managers, and analytics professionals collaborating seamlessly to support you in reaching your goals and producing a distinctive end product.
