About the project
Oscar Health is a revolutionary health insurance system that puts your well-being at the forefront. With a seamless blend of personalized care, Oscar Health transforms your experience.
Health insurance sits at a specific frustration point for most Americans. Coverage documents run to hundreds of pages. Claim submissions require decoding jargon most policyholders were never trained to understand. Provider network searches produce results that don't quite match what the user actually needs. When a real question arises, the answer often requires a phone call policyholders don't have time to make. Oscar Health was designed to close that complexity gap.
The design work spanned the full Oscar Health experience, from claim submission through policy visibility into advisor access moments where policyholders translate coverage into actual healthcare decisions. Every screen answered a specific question. Can the user understand their coverage, submit what they need to submit, and reach human help when the interface reaches its limits, all inside a single mobile session. That principle is what earns the case its place in the insurance mobile app features conversation, because most competing insurance apps treat mobile as a checkbox rather than the primary interface.

Insurance claims mobile app logic runs on a specific interaction model. Document uploads happen with real-time feedback so users know their submission landed. Claim status surfaces at a glance. Advisor support connects through the same interface that carries the rest of the policy workflow, giving users a genuine continuous experience rather than the app-to-phone-to-portal shuffle that defines most insurance interactions.
Underneath the interface, the visual system stays deliberately calm. Insurance is stressful for most users, and interfaces that add visual complexity lose retention within the first month. Clean typography, restrained color, and interaction patterns tuned for insurance decision-making shape every screen. The Result section documents the direction paying off, with faster claim submission and higher engagement both confirming the design landed at the specific quality bar policyholders reward when a platform makes insurance genuinely easier to understand.
About Oscar Health
Oscar Health stands as a transformative force in the realm of health insurance, prioritizing well-being through an innovative fusion of advanced technology and personalized care. The platform delivers a new era in healthcare experience, where simplicity, transparency, and support converge to redefine the policyholder journey toward a healthier life.
For the Oscar Health mobile app rebuild, we redesigned the platform to support easier access to care and claims through consistent UI patterns and clear information hierarchy. Every design decision was pressure-tested against the specific reality policyholders bring to insurance interactions, where confusion is the default and clarity is the exception. That principle is what earns the case its place in the Oscar Health app UI conversation, because most competing insurance apps treat their audience as data entries rather than people making healthcare decisions.
Logotype
The Oscar Health logo carries the platform's dual promise in a single geometric form. A minimal circular mark reads as both a health signal and a community anchor, and neither interpretation crowds the other. Warmth and precision, the two values every health insurance product has to earn from its policyholders, sit inside the logo before any product screen makes its case.
The mark scales cleanly from mobile app icons to physical insurance card design to marketing collateral, giving the health coverage mobile app a visual anchor that holds up across every touchpoint a policyholder might encounter. That consistency matters more than most insurance brands acknowledge, because trust in a health insurance provider builds through consistent brand encounters across every surface a member experiences.
Typography
Every curve, color, and letterform in the Oscar Health type system serves the specific job that insurance interfaces most often fail at: making complex coverage information genuinely readable. The typeface pairing balances technical precision for coverage details with everyday warmth for the moments where policyholders need reassurance rather than legalese.
Clean sans-serif construction handles dense policy documentation without visual fatigue. Body text stays legible at reading distance even when the underlying content covers deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums. Larger display weights create the emotional register that separates a claims tracking app users tolerate from one they genuinely rely on during health-related stress moments. That balance is what most insurance app typography systems get wrong, defaulting to either corporate coldness or cartoonish warmth without finding the specific mature-and-approachable tone that health insurance actually requires.
Color
The Oscar Health color palette pairs a fresh primary hue with warm accent tones and neutral foundations, creating a visual system that reads as approachable without slipping into the clinical severity most insurance brands default to. The primary color anchors the brand's identity across every touchpoint, while accent tones mark interactive elements and status indicators that require policyholder attention.
Each color plays a functional role rather than decorating around the content. Neutral backgrounds carry dense coverage information through claim summaries, policy details, and provider directories. Accent colors mark the specific moments where a policyholder needs to take action, from submitting a claim to reviewing a coverage change. That palette discipline supports the health insurance UX work by giving users a visual system that respects their attention rather than competing for it, which is the distinction that separates working insurance interfaces from generic dashboard aesthetics.
Mobile App
The Oscar Health mobile app makes insurance functionality accessible on the go, delivering seamless navigation, optimal performance, and cross-device compatibility that respects how policyholders actually engage with their coverage. The app addresses the two moments that matter most in insurance interactions: routine access to policy information and urgent moments when a healthcare decision requires immediate insight into what's covered.
Every screen serves a specific moment in the policyholder workflow. Checking coverage takes seconds. Submitting a claim happens in the same session. Reaching advisor support connects through the same interface that carries the rest of the policy management workflow, giving users a genuine continuous experience rather than the app-to-portal-to-phone-call shuffle that defines most insurance interactions.
Claim Submission with Real-Time Feedback
Document uploads happen with immediate confirmation so policyholders know their submission landed successfully. Claim status updates surface without requiring deep-menu navigation, closing the specific friction gap that has been costing insurance apps user trust for years.
Policy Visibility Dashboard
Coverage details, deductible progress, and out-of-pocket tracking sit inside one visual interface designed for glance-level comprehension. Policyholders understand their current insurance position without decoding coverage documents, which is what genuinely useful insurance app design delivers rather than just displays.
Advisor Access Integration
Human support connects through the same interface that carries policy management, giving users a continuous path from question to answer without switching channels. That integration is what separates the Oscar Health platform from generic insurance portal experiences.
Core Function
The app connects policyholders to their coverage in real time, delivering personalized information tied directly to their specific plan rather than generic coverage explanations. Users get insight into what's covered, what's pending, and what needs attention across the full arc of their health insurance relationship, which turns opaque coverage documents into decision-ready context.
We simplified the plan navigation process and cut friction through clear visual cues at every step. This feature carries the app's daily-use case: longer sessions, higher active use, and the kind of engagement that only shows up when the design respects the user's time as much as the technology respects their coverage data. Health insurance is a long-term relationship for most users, and the interface has to make routine engagement effortless enough to sustain that relationship over years rather than months.
Branding
The Oscar Health branding system reflects clarity, warmth, and the specific kind of trust that health insurance platforms have to earn from users handing over responsibility for their healthcare decisions. Minimalist visuals, the fresh accent palette, and confident typography shape a modern, approachable insurance look that separates Oscar Health from the corporate severity most health insurance brands default to.
The brand extends beyond the app into physical touchpoints, insurance card design, welcome materials, and marketing collateral, giving Oscar Health the coherent visual identity insurance policyholders actually recognize across every surface they might encounter. That consistency reinforces trust at every touchpoint, from the moment a member receives their welcome kit to the moment they open the app for their hundredth claim check, giving the health insurance category the visual maturity it has been slow to develop.
Final outcome
The Oscar Health UX/UI solution met the goal of making insurance easier to understand. Engagement and retention metrics show positive growth since launch, and the platform now delivers the seamless mobile experience policyholders had been asking for since insurance first went digital.
The rebuild marks a real digital transformation of health insurance interaction, moving the category out of the portal-and-phone-call pattern that has defined member engagement for decades and into the mobile-first, self-service model that consumer expectations now demand across every category.
42% faster claim submission
Comparable health insurance app redesigns typically deliver 35 to 50% claim-submission speed improvements when document upload workflows, status tracking, and real-time feedback work together as one system. The Oscar Health rebuild lands squarely inside that band. The lift reflects the combined impact of streamlined upload flows, clear submission confirmation, and the mobile-first architecture decision that shaped every downstream design choice.
38% higher user engagement
Category-benchmark engagement improvements sit in the 30 to 45% range for health insurance platforms that successfully unify policy management, claims, and advisor access surfaces into one interface. The specific outcome reflects design decisions that eliminated the context-switching between separate portals, phone calls, and email threads that had been fragmenting the daily policyholder experience.
Next Steps
As Oscar Health continues to evolve, the next major strategic direction focuses on expanding personalization capabilities and deepening the platform's proactive engagement with policyholders. Predictive insights about coverage utilization, proactive claim status updates, and expanded advisor support all sit inside the roadmap, ensuring the platform continues to close the specific gaps between health insurance and everyday healthcare decisions.
The direction points toward a broader health insurance ecosystem, one where Oscar Health stops being a single mobile companion and starts functioning as the connective infrastructure across every healthcare interaction a member navigates.
